7/30/2015 – Tulsa, OK — A Coffeyville police officer, currently on unpaid leave, has pleaded guilty in a Tulsa County courtroom to soliciting prostitution and has been given probation.

As previously reported by JohnTV, earlier this year, 27-year-old Eric Eugene Wright, of Yates Center, Kansas was arrested by members of the Tulsa Police Department’s Vice Unit as part of a prostitution sting back in February.

Yesterday Wright pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor charge of engaging in prostitution.

The online court record gives no details as to Wright’s sentence, other than indicating the sentence was ‘deferred.’

*A deferred sentence means the defendant must successfully complete a period of probation. Upon completion, the case is closed and the defendant has technically not been convicted of any crime and may have the entire record expunged from the public record.

Oklahoma law states that a conviction for soliciting prostitution is supposed to result in imprisonment in jail for a minimum of 30-days and a maximum of one-year and/or a fine up to $2,500.

According to court records, Wright responded to an online ad for prostitution.

Wright, unaware the prostitution ad was authored by police, requested that the undercover officer wear heals and tan stockings when they were to meet at a Tulsa area motel.

Wright was taken into custody after he placed $120 on a table in the motel room with the undercover female officer.

At the time of his arrest, Wright is said to have been on the Coffeyville Police Department for less than six months.

There has been no word yet as to Wright’s employment as a police officer.
